Sustainable Development

We have a responsibility to our tenants to provide safe housing that minimizes the impact and utilization of critical natural resources and habitats. To this end, we have undertaken a concerted effort to enhance Preservation Housing Trust’s stewardship of environmental, human and financial resources. Our development, construction, property management, asset management and design teams work to gather data to determine baseline utility usage and then to meet sustainable development standards for all new construction. We do this using both socioeconomic data modeling and federal weatherization guidelines.

By developing sustainable properties, our residents receive numerous benefits including reduced energy costs and healthier indoor environments. Preservation Housing Trust has completed numerous energy audits and implemented, developed, and upgrades several of our properties to take advantage of more energy efficient appliances and additional insulation and air-quality enhancements. Every new construction or re-development project we have includes the installation of ENERGY STAR-certified dishwashers and refrigerators.
